Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann is to sue Tim Wiese for ?17,500 after the Werder Bremen stopper suggested Lehmann belonged in a mental home.

Lehmann blasted Wiese's performance during the Champions League clash with Tottenham last September, blaming the keeper for one of Spurs' goals.

The Bremen keeper hit back in an interview with German paper Bild, he said: '(Lehmann should) check himself into a clinic - preferably a secure unit. He should go on the Muppet Show - that man belongs on the couch. Maybe he could get help there.'

The pair have never seen eye-to-eye, Wiese claims Lehmann would snub his handshakes before matches in the Bundesliga and Lehmann backed Manuel Neuer and Rene Adler to take the German No.1 Jersey ahead of the Werder keeper at the World Cup last summer.

Neither player is required to be present at court which will be heard in Munich’s State Prosecution Court on Thursday when it will be established whether Wiese’s remarks were defamatory or not.
