Rory McIlroy stays positive after another final-round collapse costs him victory in Kuala Lumpur

McIlroy came out on the final day four shots ahead, and extended his overnight lead with a birdie on 10, only to blow his chances by shooting four over par in the final round.

The 21-year-old Northern Irishman, who let a four-shot lead slip in the final round of the Masters last weekend, had been three shots ahead of the rest with four holes of his third round to play in Malaysia, but by the 12th hole of his final round he trailed leaders Gregory Bourdy of France and Italian teenager Matteo Manassero by three.

A double-bogey at the par-four 12th set him back to one under for the round up to that point, with a similar third-round setback at the 15th allowing Manassero and Sweden's Alexander Noren to finish in the lead heading into the final round.

"At this moment I'm pretty disappointed but it was a good week," he said."I'm proud of the way I have picked up myself from last week," a philosophical McIlroy told reporters.

"To shoot the scores I did considering the travel and stuff, it was a pretty good effort. Obviously the result was disappointing but everything else was positive."

McIlroy, who came into the tournament after a thirty-hour journey from Augusta, praised the performance of Manassero.

"Matteo is fantastic. He is a great talent - to get two wins on the European Tour before your 18th birthday is pretty special," said McIlroy, who won his first tour event aged 19.

"He is great and we've known he is a great player. He deserves it."

Roy Keane set for Melbourne Victory

Roy Keane is set for a shock return to management with Australian side Melbourne Victory.

Keane has been out of work since January when he was sacked by Ipswich after his 20 months in charge failed to ignite a Premier League promotion challenge.

Sportsmail understands the Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend is currently in Melbourne finalising the details of his contract.

Although Keane failed at Ipswich – he was dismissed with them 19th in the league and following a run of seven defeats in nine games – he did take Sunderland from the bottom of the table to clinch the Championship title.

He then kept them in the top-flight the following year. He quit Sunderland in December 2008 and succeeded Jim Magilton at Portman Road five months later, but despite spending ?8million in the transfer market, he only managed 28 wins from his 81 games in charge.

Usain Bolt storms to impressive 200 metre victory in Jamaica

Usain Bolt clocked a time of 19.56 in the 200 metres sprint in Jamaica. Competing in front of 30,000 home fans at the Jamaica International Invitational in Kingston on Saturday, Bolt was in ominous form as he raced away from his rivals to cross the line in 19.56 seconds – 0.4sec ahead of second-placed American Wallace Spearmon.

"I felt good, the race was a good one and I am on target to have a good season," said the triple Olympic champion and double world record-holder. "My training has been going well and I am pleased with my performance.”

Bolt’s display was all the more impressive because the race was run into a 0.8 metres per second headwind. Running from lane five, he was ahead by 60 metres and, by the finish, had a 10-metre advantage over Spearmon, the world bronze medallist.

His winning time has been bettered only three times before – twice by Bolt himself with his world record records of 19.19sec at last year’s World Championships in Berlin and 19.30sec at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Michael Johnson holds the third quickest time with his old world mark of 19.32sec.

Bolt insists he has no interest in chasing world records this year but such a brilliant performance so early in season suggests it is time to heed his oft-quoted mantra: “Anything is possible”.

Last year, Bolt managed to smash his own 100m and 200m world records on the back of a late start to his winter training that was further delayed by injuries he sustained in a car accident.

With a trouble-free winter behind him this year, more great things surely lie ahead for the giant Jamaican, who will run his first 100m of the season in Daegu, Korea, on May 19 before making his Diamond League debut over 200m in Shanghai on May 23.

American Tyson Gay, the world’s second fastest man, was also in action in Kingston but avoided an early confrontation with his rival by opting to compete in the 400m. He won comfortably in 45.05sec.

Meanwhile, 19 year-old Chris Thompson leapt to third on the all-time British 10,000m list behind Jon Brown and Eamonn Martin after clocking 27min 29.61sec at a meeting at Stanford University in the United States. His time qualifies him for this summer’s European Championships in Barcelona.

YE Yang a winner again as sees off two Welshmen to claim victory in China Open

US PGA champion YE Yang needed just two final-round birdies to win the Volvo China Open by two shots at a damp Jinji Lake International Golf Club.

Yang, 38, held a one-shot overnight lead but a battling one-under-par final round of 71 was enough to top the leaderboard at 15 under ahead of Challenge Tour graduate Rhys Davies and former champion Stephen Dodd.

Yang went 50 holes from Friday afternoon without dropping a shot, although the Korean was denied a bogey-free last round on the final green after finding sand off the tee.
